Breaking: Andrew Yang Qualifies for Debates & Hits top 5 Candidates for 2020
When he entered the race on November 6th of 2017 he had very little name recognition and was campaigning on what seemed to be a fringe idea; a universal basic income. Now after a wave of donations from grassroots donors and a surge in media coverage, Yang is now in the top 5 candidates on the betting markets beating Warren, Klobuchar, and Booker.
Following a momentous interview on Joe Rogan, Yang made strides in his campaign building an unlikely coalition between previous Bernie supporters and members of the right, including libertarians and former Trump supporters. After several appearances on Fox News talking about his ideas for a Universal Basic Income, Yang has seemingly managed to persuade a more conservative crowd to jump on this idea for economic stimulus.
This surge in press coverage has led to Yang reaching the qualification for the upcoming Democratic debates and subsequent addition to the political prediction site Predictit.org where he started of strong holding a position in the top 5 candidates for the Democratic nomination. There are still 9 months until the first primary in Iowa, so there is still plenty of time for the field to shift, and two of the top 5 candidates have yet to announce (Joe Biden & Beto O’Rourke), so we will have to wait and see to find out if Yang can keep up this momentum.
